Faryl Lange Family Designated Fund

Specific Need

The Faryl Lange Family Designated Fund is a permanent endowment fund that will specifically support the Local History and Genealogy Section of the Mankato City Library.  The specific need identified is to help the library preserve existing materials in this section and add new resources that make local history easier to discover and use.  This could include digitizing and expanding access to local newspapers, expanding access to historical newspapers throughout the United States, access to genealogy research resources such as Ancestry.com, and preserving and enhancing the local history section.

Mission

To provide permanent financial support for the Local History and Genealogy Section of the Mankato City Library, helping the library preserve its unique collections while expanding the resources available to families, researchers, students, historians, and anyone interested in discovering their connection to the area.

Profile

The Mankato City Library's Local History and Genealogy Section includes a wealth of information about Jewell County and the communities that have shaped it, including:  Local history of Jewell County; Histories of Jewell County towns - past and present; Cemetery indexes; County school histories; family histories and stories; Mankato and Rock Hills school yearbooks; local newspapers, and other historical resources.  These materials help answer questions that connect us to our past:  Who lived here? What were their lives like? How did our communities grow and change?  Where did our families come from?

Annual distributions from the Faryl Lange Family Designated Fund can help the library preserve existing materials and add new resources that make local history easier to discover and use.

The Faryl Lange Family Designated Fund is a permanent endowment.  Gifts to the fund help build the principal endowment, while annual distributions can provide ongoing support for the library's Local History and Genealogy Section.  This means that a gift during The Great Give event can help someone discover their family history many years from now.
